Art Gallery
Like our good friend Andy Warhol once said “Art is anything you can get away with.” And we plan on doing just that at Palette.
How It Works
Throughout the year, we will showcase a local artist in our cafe. I’m not going to lie, we are really focused on helping lady artists pull ahead here. This doesn’t mean Dude art is outlawed, but all the art, in one way or another, should support women. In 2019, we feel like that’s a pretty reasonable, albeit late, goal we should all do our part to tackle.
The artist ‘in residence’ will be regularly present in the space, whether live painting on our patio or offering a lesson in her trade. Her artwork will be for sale and she will receive 70% of the sales. None of this 50/50 stuff you see elsewhere. We believe our artist should get a majority of the cash since they are doing the work. I mean, really, artists don’t need to starve anymore.
We are all hungry for great art.
And artists or not, we are probably hungry for a great lunch. It just makes sense we work together on this. We are ready to invest in our artistic community here in Saratoga. We know you are too. We are excited to see what we can all create together.

Current Artist: Monica Bill-Hughes
Monica Bill-Hughes is a visual artist who lives and works outside of Troy, NY with her husband, their daughter, Eleanora, and two cats, Parker and Ullyses.
Her work explores conflicting cultural expectations of women, abstraction of domestic space and contradictory impulses.
Monica received her MFA in Painting and Drawing at The State University of New York at Albany and her BFA, from The College of St. Rose. Her work has been shown in Richmond, Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Anderson Gallery, The Perrella Gallery at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and at Collar Works Gallery in Troy, NY, among others. She is the recipient of the Eric M. and S. Phillip Heiner Endowed Fellowship through the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, as an Artist-in-Residence. Monica was the recipient of a Juror’s Choice award from the 2015 Mohawk Hudson Regional, juried by Rachel Uffner (Rachel Uffner Gallery, NYC). She has also been featured as an artist in MAAKE Magazine. Monica teaches Drawing 1 at The Center for Art & Design at The College of St. Rose and has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Hudson Valley Community College and Siena College.
Monica is also a new mom. When she is not painting or teaching she fills her time with sharing new experiences with her daughter, like visiting to museums, going on stroller rides, and feeling the grass between her toes. Becoming a mother is an experience that has truly influenced both her work and perceptions of herself. She is excited to see how motherhood will shape and influence her artistic practice.
