Palette Stitch ‘n Bitch
July 22nd, 2021 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
You are invited to Palette’s Stitch ‘n Bitch Group, to be held on Thursday, July 22 from 7 – 8pm at Palette Café in Saratoga.
This month and next month, we will be highlighting The Saratoga Springs Satellite Reef project which will be part of an exhibition at the Tang Teaching Museum next year. Read more about it here.
The Saratoga Springs Satellite Reef project draws on the long historical connections, especially in the United States, between fiber practice and community building. The project connects hobby crafters, art professionals, novice crocheters, and students from Skidmore, broader Saratoga, as well as other global communities.
But you don’t know how to crochet? No problem. Kristen Hyman, a beloved member of our Stitch ‘n Bitch Group and a certified crochet instructor with over 20 years of facilitation experience will teach us how to crochet a coral reef, and there will be plenty of yarn and crochet hooks for us to use.
In August, we will hear from the folks at Tang Teaching Museum about The Saratoga Springs Satellite Reef project AND we will be celebrating Women’s Equality Day at Palette in Saratoga. We plan to collect all the crochet coral reef pieces donated from the group and connect them together to be part of the exhibit next year!
The project responds to the environmental crisis of global warming and the escalating problem of oceanic plastic trash, and the exhibit will highlight the positive actions humans take despite the damage we do to the Earth’s ecology.
Registration is required, although this event is free. The event is held at Palette Café in Sarataga in person on July 22, 2012 from 7pm-8:30pm and then again on August 26, 2021 from 7pm -8:30pm.
ABOUT PALETTE STITCH ‘N BITCH
This event is hosted by Sizz Handmade! You are invited to Palette’s Stitch ‘n Bitch Group, a virtual gathering of like minded people who knit, crochet, weave, stitch, embroider, spin, or make paper crafts. No experience necessary.
Stitch ‘n Bitch is a term that has been used to refer to social knitting groups since World War II. The modern Stitch ‘n Bitch movement has helped reclaim women’s domestic work for reform.
Handicrafts (handmade items) have always been an essential aspect of a modern society; they fulfill our need for things like textiles and have often provided space for communities to come together. As we become more and more concerned about the health and vitality of ourselves and our planet, it’s no surprise handicraft skills are trending right now.
Join the Palette community and Sizz Handmade as we gather virtually once a month for Stitch ‘n Bitch. This is an informal gathering, but you will be able to share what they’ve been working on if you are up for it; there’s no pressure. Registration is required. This event is free; however, there are limited in person and virtual slots available.
